Mission

The Psychodynamic Couple and Family Institute of New England (PCFINE) is a nonprofit organization offering postgraduate professional training, public education, and consultation to community agencies.

PCFINE was created and is sustained by mental health professionals who are committed to an integrated conceptual model that includes psychodynamic ways of understanding unconscious functioning in couples and families and systemic insights into the organization and structure of interpersonal conflict.

The Psychodynamic Couple and Family Institute of New England endeavors to:

  • Train mental health clinicians in an integrated model of couple and family therapy that includes psychodynamic
  • and family systems approaches,
  • Sponsor public outreach and education in areas of significance to couples and families,
  • Offer professional consultation to community-based agencies, and
  • Provide a community where colleagues can learn and grow together.

PCFINE's mission to support the connection between people in couples and families extends to examining and removing social and systemic barriers to healthy connection as well.  PCFINE is committed to an ongoing process of becoming an anti-racist and inclusive organization that continuously examines how racism, classism, ageism, sexism, and other "isms" manifest at the personal, interpersonal, cultural, and institutional levels, including within our own organization.

PCFINE is committed to creating long-term change that is reflected in our leadership, business structure, training, and membership.  As a part of this process, PCFINE is committed to increasing  the diversity of its membership and becoming more inclusive of historically excluded groups, including but not limited to individuals who identify as BIPOC, coming from middle and lower socioeconomic classes, LGBTQIA+, and early-career clinicians.

We acknowledge socioeconomic status and budgeting constraints may pose a barrier to membership for some therapists who wish to join our community,  To address this inequity, PCFINE is able to offer free or sliding-scale membership fees and an equity rate for our training programs for individuals who come from historically excluded groups.
